What is that green stuff growing on the side of my house?

How do you get rid of this stuff?

We work with chemical manufactures to find the best products to kill organic growth. We spray with a special low pressure system so we don't damage the siding and the surrounding area. Typically around the same pressure as your hose. We can typically kill it with one spray but it may require more.

Can I just pressure wash it off?

Pressure washing is not an efficient method to remove organic growth. After all, you're just introducing water to something that loves moisture. Anyone who has pressure washed their siding with algae will find that it's more difficult than you think to fully remove, and even if you can't see it anymore,there are most likely many colonies hiding under the ledges of your siding waiting to feast on the water you just sprayed on them. Not only will you not get all the growth but there is a good chance you have damaged your siding or worse..introducing water behind your siding where it can grow on the materials behind it. Vinyl siding has a life span of 50 years or more, according to many warranties offered by VSI member manufacturers. It would a shame if a single power washing incident resulted in your sidings warranty being denied. There is a time and place for pressure washing, your siding is not the place.

I have a black residue on my siding?

Black residue is an indicator of dust and/or pollution contamination. Contamination like this is more difficult to remove and requires different cleaners.It may take longer to remove the stains, typically these require at least 2 coats sometimes more. Don't fear, we tackle this problem all the time. We will have your siding shining like new!

What kinds of chemicals do you use?

Typically we use a combination of safe cleaners to clean your siding. Heavily soiled siding may require multiple coats or a stronger solution. We can spray our cleaners near plants and landscaping without damage to the area. While our chemicals completely kill these organic compounds that are growing on your siding, there is simply no way to prevent it from returning in the coming years. If there was a magic chemical that could stop organic growth indefinitely, your home siding would be the place for it. As the saying goes,”Life finds a way”, but there are ways to slow the growth. Reducing shade and moisture are a sure fire way to slow growth.Sometimes that's just not possible do, thats ok. Our cleanings are quick, typically cleaning a 1,500sq ft will take about 2 hours. Typically we can accommodate something small like that at the time of cleaning the home, of course that will increase the time as well.
